52 Day Rule Contract ManagementThe ANU recognises the benefits of academic staff undertaking consultancy services in their personal capacity and other professional activities which are related to the nature of their University employment - this policy is the "52 day policy". This policy applies to Individual Consultancies which are defined as consultancies or other professional activities where individual academic staff members perform work in their personal capacity, either in their own name or that of a company, for external organisations. In such Individual Consultancies all proceeds, expenses, insurances, taxation, reports etc are the responsibility of the individual academic staff member. Subject to this policy, full-time academic staff members may engage in work on Individual Consultancies for up to 52-days per year where they are to receive remuneration for those services from an external organisation, notwithstanding whether the payment is in cash or in kind. For more information on the policy please go to the ANU website. The ANU Enterprise team has significant experience in the management of contracts ANU researchers undertake through the 52 day policy. We have an efficient governance and approval system which allows accounts and contracts to be processed immediately, and we respond to all requests for assistance within 2 business days. ANU Enterprise adds a 15% charge to your professional fee rate to provide this contract management service. We also undertake larger scale contract research, consulting and training contracts. The 15% charge for managing 52 day rule contracts covers: negotiating a contract between the client and ANUE, and between ANUE and you; insurance cover for you (professional indemnity, travel, and workers compensation); recognition of the work to your faculty/school if it is eligible for HERDC; cash flow management so you get your expenses in advance or promptly in arrears; invoicing and financial management to the client (e.g. accounts payable and receivable and maintaining records for 7 years by law); and optional quality assurance of your reports including printing and sending to client.
