Criminal Restorative Justice Diversion from prosecution to restorative justice cautioning is a promising but potentially dangerous method for closing the justice gap. It is therefore essential that any further tests of diversion from prosecution to restorative justice be able to provide independent and internally valid estimates of effects on crime, and victims, by offence type. This project tests restorative justice within the criminal justice process in the UK. |

Improving Data for Decentralized Planning Improved analysis of data provided by Indonesia’s decennial Censuses and annual SUSENAS (National Social and Economic Survey) is crucial for the Australia-Indonesia Development Cooperation Program – especially in the context of decentralization. This project will correct and archive existing data sets, train local and central staff in techniques for district level analysis, and undertake high priority research for development planning. Through the project, for the first time detailed census data is being utilised for very small area analysis - at the district, subdistrict and even the village levels, over most of the nation. |

Regional Social Protection Systems Assessment The project improved Pacific governments' capacity to develop social protection policies and programs for the poor and vulnerable. The major output was a social protection assessment study, which for each of the participating countries, Marshall Islands, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Fiji included (i) a vulnerability and risk profile; (ii) a summary labor market assessment; (iii) a review and analysis of the current social protection system, both formal and informal, that includes an assessment of its adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency in providing social protection to the vulnerable population; and (iv) recommendations for future social protection policies and programs based on identified needs, institutional capacity, costs of proposed interventions, and financing options. |

Small Islands in Peril The Small Islands in Peril program is a cross-cutting program which will contribute to three of the four main outputs of the Milne Bay Community-Based Coastal and Marine Conservation Program (MBCP). It is primarily intended to contribute to Output 4 (the community development output), but will also make distinctive contributions to Output 1 (the provincial capacity-building output) and Output 3 (the environmental education output). The SMIP Program will also address the question of how lessons learnt in the first phase of the
MBCP can be more broadly applied to the management of coastal and marine ecosystems in
other parts of PNG. |
